Please tell me what do i do? i work in fossil gcc in bangalore. 3 months back i had a fight with my manager and ever since he has made life very difficult for me. first it started with targeting me on online meetings and then making fun of me during team lunches.. but last week i got a call from hr saying i am being put in pip saying i haven't been performing correctly. i really dont know what options i have. has anyone been in similar situation?

Situation 1: (Staying at the organization) Document everything. Have a connect with your Manager and ask his expectations on your performance and where you are currently landing. After the meeting, send a mail detailing everything. Do this every quarter (at the very least). Improve on things he has mentioned. Also, if the opportunity arises, via initiative or day-to-day, work with another manager. When your year end appraisal happens, make sure to pick on the point which you improved upon and if you have the backing of the other manager/project leader, that will be perfect, that way, if the Manager is targeting you, (s)he will have no way to back up his accusation(s). Scenario 2: (Leaving the organization) Find out who the Manager is close to, or interacts regularly, make sure you do not mention any of these people as a point of contact. If you have a senior who is happy with your performance, make to to mention them, if asked.

Thanks Tanmay. i think whatever i do now they will not remove me from pip as they have made up their mind. how can they do this to hard working people? complete politics. because of all this even job finding is becoming tough. i will try speaking to other manager if she can take me in her team. Thanks!

It all depends on the manager and his-her attitude. If he/she is accommodative then they might understand but it mostly it goes on the ego or the fight has turned bitter or unprofessional. This word goes out quickly across the org. Hence best is to think with calm mind and if you are not good with manager look for another job Or under another manager within the org. Try to understand the managers perspective too before you disagree.
